Hello, Paige-
Ever since I started going to comics.com, I have, dare I say,
"religiously" read Jane's World. Being a gay male, the topics are
very close to home! And that Ethan; all the good looking guys are
always married or straight! Thanks for the many laffs; I truly enjoy
your work!

I just wanted to let you know that I love your strip. Jane's World
has quickly grown to be one of my favorite things about working
nights since I get it before I leave in the morning and it never
fails to either give me a smile or make me think. I was wondering if
you have any books of the old Jane strips out or if you were
considering it. I just found it a few months ago and would love to
see what happened before I started reading.

I really like your cartoon. Sometimes it is like you have walked
down a few of the corridors in my mind. Very funny. Thanks.

I love your comics! They involve the everyday and it is
spectacular. Do you sell your comics like in books? I would buy
them!

(yeah, yeah, I know the e-mail address is pretty stupid, but it was
actually the next in line for anything MsKaren...)

So, the real reason I'm writing to you is to thank you for a comic
strip... A clean comic strip about a lesbian.

Ok, I've only read the last 30 days of the strip, so I may have
missed something, but what I've seen, I like.

Thank you for creating Jane and her world. I'm planning on keeping
up with this one.

Sincerely,

Karen

Hi Paige,

Just had to tell you that I loved the strip on cedar chips and hamsters. I work in the pet industry and have tried for years to educate the public and pet stores. As you can tell it hasn't stopped the stores from selling it...

I really enjoy your comic!

best wishes,

Martina

>From a person who cares deeply for the small pets of the world, a BIG thank-you for today's strip regarding cedar chips! (some say any wood shavings is bad, too) Thank you so much for this topic!

In your strip published August 5th, 2002 you have an escaping hamster, which happens all the time sadly. I work as a Manager at a pet Store, New Eden Pet Store in Elmira, NY to be exact. In the above mentioned strip you have Jane saying, "Cedar Chips?" while eyeing a trail on the floor.

I don't know if you are aware that putting small animals, ANY small animal on Cedar is very dangerous and can kill your pet. 99.9% of all small animals are allergic to Cedar and it can cause respitory failure, hair loss, bloody noses and the likes. I'm telling you this because of all the people who read your strip I'm sure there are those who will now think it's okay to use cedar bedding in with their small animals and it's really not.

I have no idea how far in advance you make your strip but I'm hoping at some point you can show Jane finding out about the dangers of cedar bedding for her small animal (if she finds him) and correcting the situation with either pine bedding or some other source such as Cellsorb or Bird Country.

Thank you so much.

I thought you might be interested in knowing that both cedar and pine bedding for small animals is toxic to small animals like your strip's hamster. Especially cedar. They cause both respiratory and liver problems and lead to infant death in babies. The pet stores continue to sell them because they don't give a damn and people continue to buy them because it's cheap.
Aspen is what should be used because it has no oils in it.
You could always save some hamsters, write it into your strip!

Thank you *very* much for the recent Sendak tribute.

I played Max in a school play 25 years ago when I was 5, wearing an outfit made by mum, including a a fur tail made from the collar of an old coat!!

Brought back some nice memories ;)
