Now that I’m looking at these new pages I’m thinking that you may not be able to see a difference with the new pen. I guess what I’m noticing is that the line work isn’t quite as loose as it was with the quill pen. So here are a couple of pages from book 8. Skye is getting a little romantic advice from her co-worker, Tucker, before taking off for a trip to Key West with Jane, Chelle and Jill.

So what kind of pen is it?
How big do you draw your pages?
It’s one of those Rotring Artpens… the kind that use the cartridge. The line work was done with an EF (extra fine) and the boxes were ruled with B (bold) size.
oh, and I forgot to also say the pages are done on 9 inch by 12 inch bristol board.
Thanks Paige.
I recently experimented with the Staedtler Pigment Liners for artifact illustrations (lab rat archaeologist here). I thought it would be a step up in the convenience department from the frequently-clogging Rapidographs I usually use. Line quality and density turned out nicely, but I discovered the hard way that the ink doesn’t hold up well at all under even gentle erasing (at least on vellum). Speaking of experimentation, next time I’ll try erasing underlying pencil on a piece of scrap before drawing an entire arrowhead. Rotring, here I come.
