Summer driving music

Happy to be back together, Jill and Chelle get friendly in the back seat. (Click to enlarge.)

This blog entry is dedicated to summer drive soundtracks. You know, the CD that you blast in your car while driving through the summer night with all the windows down.

This week that CD is Shawn Mullin’s first CD, Better Days.

I’ve been going through some old CDs so that I can sell them or donate them and while sorting my collection I came across this Shawn Mullins CD that I’ll bet I haven’t listened to in 10 years. This was Shawn’s first full-length album released on compact disc in 1992 (I think). Better Days features 23 year old Shawn, backed-up by a full band.

I picked this up from Shawn himself when I heard him play live at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia. (Back before I moved to the Left Coast.) Eddie’s is a great venue, where one of my favorite bands, Girlyman, now plays regularly.

Anyway, enjoy the warm weather, find a cute co-pilot for the passenger seat and crank the tunes.

Poor Jane. She forgot her co-pilot.

Mars 2 sketch

I’ve gotten the first 45 pages of The Martian Confederacy book 2 from Jason and there are some great scenes. I’ve started playing around with some of them… here’s a fun one… pissed off sexy girl, greeted by LOU as Boone yells in his defense in the background.

The Martian Confederacy Vol. 2: From Mars with Love

And here are a few words from Jason Mc. about TMC2:

“I’ve just finished the first draft of Martian Confederacy V.2: From Mars from Love. The premise of our sequel is going to be different. We expand on the structure of life in 3535, in an adventure that takes our rebellious trio off world and into places they’ve never been before. Hearts will be broken, moons will be destroyed and and hooch will flow in zero gravity.”

Comments worth sharing

There were some fun comments on the Comics.com site today. For those of you who read “Jane” elsewhere I thought I’d share a few of these. One being a request for Evelyn to make a cartoon appearance in Jane’s World. I’ll get to work on that! As for the comment about “getting more love stories,” post wedding… I feel certain that’s going to happen… and as we all know, with love comes complications and with complications comes humor. I can’t wait to see what happens :-)

Thank you for all the “congrats” and good wishes.

Slight change in schedule for JW online

You might have noticed a note at the end of today’s comic on Comics.com about a change in “Jane’s” online schedule. I’ll be working on book two of The Martian Confederacy and in order to have the time to do that JW will publish only on Monday’s while the Mars book is in production. I’ll be sure and make Monday’s comic a nice big comic… but it will only be on Mondays. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

Globe news

Someone, who will remain nameless (Craig), thought this little Globe cover made for some post-wedding humor. Look closely at the top, middle frame. Ha!

I suppose I’m not the only “news” getting overshadowed by Michael Jackson.

I’m sorry to miss out on Comic Con this year. I hope all my pals in comics are having a great convention.

Cheers!

Big events in Jane’s World and mine

The newest collection of Jane’s World is here. As you can see, I’m holding it in my hand right this minute. Comic buyers may notice that the page count is slightly smaller, but the price is the same… a big part of this is due to my continued efforts to print the books domestically rather than outsourcing to China… so I hope “Jane” comic book fans are okay supporting their fellow American workers in this way.

THE BIG EVENT: JULY 12th

It’s funny that the theme of this volume is “The Quest for Love,” because while working on this book, I found true love. And last weekend Evelyn and I were married in a small, private ceremony at the Sea Ranch Chapel on the Pacific coast. The experience was simultaneously filled with nervousness, laughter and strong emotion. I was quite touched by the “cocoon of love” created by the small group of friends and family that gathered with us for the event.

Kate, Me and Susan

I will borrow from my friend Susan’s eloquent email, sent following the event, because I think it captures the way we all felt:

“Jules gave the wedding toast and it was great.  She used the metaphor of a color wheel, which was so appropriate; how these two are vibrant colors in and of themselves.  But when you place complementary colors beside each other they become even more vibrant.  It was classy.

I congratulated Paige and Evelyn and also thanked them because they broke a spell for me.  That bubble of sadness that visits me at weddings was nowhere to be found.  It was truly joyful.  And I floated home with a heart full of joy for the two of them and for the time I spent in the company of people who had all come together to celebrate someone they love.  It was truly a blessed event.”

Thank you, Susan. I indeed feel truly blessed.

Today’s Jane comic

Hello Jane’s World readers. For some reason today’s comic isn’t “live,” so I’m posting it here. I hope you all had a great 4th of July holiday. (By the way, this is the continuation of the epilogue.)
