June 29, 2009 – The LGBT Webcomic Charity Art Auction brings together several prominent comic and webcomic artists in an effort to raise funds to help LGBT students with the costs of higher education.

An Internet art auction will be from July 20th through July 24th. Original art pieces have been donated by several notable artists including nationally syndicated cartoonist Paige Braddock; illustrator, artist, and animator Erika Moen (http://www.erikamoen.com/); and award-winning cartoonist Megan Rose Gedris (http://rosalarian.com/). Money raised by the auction will be donated to the Point Foundation (http://www.thepointfoundation.org/), a nonprofit organization that provides financial support, mentoring, leadership training, and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

There have been lots of comments about the current storyline on Comics.com. I can’t wait to see what all of you think about the June 18th (Tomorrow’s) comic!

I had to make an emergency trip home last Thursday. My mom was admitted to the hospital, but all is well now. However, this trip meant I was off the grid, in the rural North Georgia Mountains, so my blog, email and commentary have been a bit neglected.

It’s good to be back.

You guys have probably figured out that Jane’s World opened a little EBAY shop (see previous post about original art for sale). I decided Jane should do a bit more to support her publishing habit. So, following Kathy’s advice I’m offering some back issues of Jane’s World at half off the cover price. I have some copies of Vol. 1 and Vol. 3. I’m out of Vol. 2, but I noticed there are some used editions on Amazon.com. These represent the first three, original, trade paperback collections that were eventually collected into one massive volume titled Jane’s World Collection 1 (450 pages). That omnibus collection is still available from bookstores and comic shops, but some of these original back issues are not. I’ll be adding some back issues of the single comics later in the month. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, these first two are now available on EBAY.

Jane’s World Vol. 3 begins with Jane taking a little fantasy trip away from reality as Jane bond, guns and hot girls included. Just when life seems like it might get back to normal a glimpse of a shadowy character from Chelle’s past shows up in town. Shortly thereafter, Jane gets a visit from her ex-girlfriend, Talia. Talia isn’t quite the girl Jane knew in college and this little visitor from Jane’s past kicks off a chain of events that climax in a desert road trip and flash back series in which Chelle reveals her relationship to the shadowy figure. Lots of good dialogue and character development (past and present) unfolds in this three chapter story arc.

Every now and then I start feeling overwhelmed… I start thinking that I want to take a sabbatical from the deadlines of doing the comic online… you know, give myself some down time to sketch and experiment with things that may never even get published…

And just when I’m thinking that, I get a bit of “fan mail” like this, in reference to this image. This is the email just as I received it… I’m not making it up:

“Here’s the problem with you fags. You think you can do anything. If any other comic strip had a guy grabbing a chicks tit it would be banished. But a lezzy doing its OK. Right. Fuck you!”

Well, getting an email like this just makes me want to draw and post Jane’s World more than ever! It’s like throwing down some sort of cartooning gauntlet! (Is he saying he didn’t enjoy the hot tub sequence?)

With comic readers like this one out there surfing the net then JW definitely needs to have a presence on the Web. Who knew anyone even still used the word “lezzy” anymore?
