A few JW originals are now available on EBAY

This is a detail from one of the original pieces of art now up for sale on EBAY. I had this brainstorm that maybe Jane could do her part for the next print run by selling a bit of her likeness on EBAY. This detail is from a piece of art that was intended for the cover of issue 7, but was never published. You can check out the item listing for this ski fiasco here on EBAY.

The other pieces of original artwork for sale are:

Page 20 from Issue 18: The Gay Handbook

Cover art for Issue 15: Splendor in the Grass

Cover art for Issue 10: Prom Night from Hell

Have a great weekend!

Volume 9 heading to the printer at the beginning of June!

I’ve been feverishly working on wrapping up book 9 so I can ship it off to the printer by the first week of June. (Which is almost here!!) It will be available from your local comic shop in July.

If you haven’t already put your order in for the newest JW collection then the Diamond order code for your friendly local comic shop is: MAY090864

If you order books through your local book store then the ISBN number is: 0979420725

I will be sending out an email once I have some books in stock, in the event that you’re in a rural area who’s unlucky enough to not have either outlet then you will be able to get a book via the website here.

I think the book is wrapping up nicely… My pal Jason McNamara is working on a special story that we were hoping to include as an added chapter at the end of this book. But we won’t have it finished in time, so it’ll be in the next release.

This will be the first time that a JW book has featured an epilogue that will nicely wrap up some loose ends for readers (and for the author!).

I don’t know how JW fans feel about the publishing schedule but I was considering changing the schedule after this Volume. The idea is to do smaller books, like 68-72 page books and put them out more frequently… rather than only doing the one big trade, once a year. (Comments welcome about this.)

I think all small publishers are examing how they print and sell their books right now so it’s a good time to re-evaluate.

Anyway… sorry I haven’t posted lately but I’ve been spending all of my time inking pages!

More updates to follow as the book release gets closer.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Is Dorothy a closet smoker?

I was wondering if, in a stressful situation, Dorothy would revisit an old habit from college. This is a sketch of Dorothy smoking with Jill in the alley behind Cafe Squeeze.

Chick fight!

Someone asked on the Comics.com message board today if it’s fun or hard to draw action and fight sequences. I’d say BOTH. But it’s really fun when they turn out like this panel above. I loved the way the drawing of Skye’s right swing turned out. I’d love to figure out a way to work in more action sequences like this in Jane’s World but it isn’t every day that one of the characters does something worthy of such a punch.

This whole sequence was inspired by a recent visit I had from my sister-in-law who’s a Louisiana native. We were walking around downtown (Northern California) and ran into a friend of mine and her girlfriend. The “girlfriend” really hit my sis-in-law the wrong way. My sister-in-law thought she was really stuck up… which sometimes happens when people who aren’t from the south hear a southern accent… they automatically assume you’re dumb. Anyway, when the “girlfriend” walked away my sis-in-law turned to me and said:

“Now, I’m only going to be here for the weekend… but if I was gonna be here longer, me and that girl would have to throw down.”

Loved that!
