Show and tell
I realized today that I’ve been so crazy busy at work that I haven’t posted anything new to the JW blog in a couple of weeks! I just finished a new color comic for the next issue of Jane & Jane magazine in which I experimented with some cloth patterns on the characters’ shirts. I thought that turned out kinda cool.

And for the last two weeks I’ve been feverishly working on Great Pumpkin art for a book that Hallmark will release later this year. That was a fun project, but as usual, the art deadline was the one that squeezed so I ended up having a week and a half to finish and color illustrations for a 44 page book.

Lastly (and those of you who know me well may want to sit down) I cleaned my office! It’s always cool to rediscover projects that have gotten buried in piles on your desk… sort of like Art Archeology.
I came across some comics from a concept that Stephan Pastis and I worked on a few years ago (yes, it’s been that long since I filed paperwork). Stephan wrote and I illustrated this comic. This is an image of the main character, who’s name is Moon Rocket, which was also the name of the comic.

This is a full comic strip that I’ve stacked so it’ll be easier to read in the blog format. This was one of my favorites. I have another one that I’ll post tomorrow, but as it is, this blog post is getting pretty deep. I should also mention that these comics only ever got to see print once. Kathy Bottarini’s comic shop produced a comic for Free Comic Book Day and included a few pages of Moon Rocket.

Special thanks
Hey, I wanted to give a special “thank you” on the JW blog to my pal, Andria, in Colorado. She is a serious mountain biker who really helped me out with some of the finer points of what happens in a mountain bike race. Andria added some great “language and terminology” details to Sarah’s story concept.
Thank you!
Safety first, always wear your skid lid while cycling.

JK Parkin, from Robot 6, caught Jason and I signing copies of The Martian Confederacy at the Schulz Museum booth on Saturday. Jason was slightly subdued, but his usual witty self… always fun to share a con table with him.
I wanted to say thanks to the Schulz Museum for letting us sign books that had nothing to do with Charlie Brown at their table.
I’d also like to thank the Prism Comics gang for hosting a great booth and for letting me sign Jane books at their booth on Sunday.
Now… back to the JW biking adventure!
