Wondercon this weekend in SF!

Wondercon happens this weekend at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. I’ll be on a couple of panels during the weekend and will be signing at a couple of different booths. If you’re at the convention please come by, say hello, get a book signed or at the very least pick up some free post cards. Here’s the schedule for the weekend as it relates to Jane’s World and The Martian Confederacy:

Joey Alison Sayers (Thingpart) and Leia Weathington (Bold Riley) as they present a spirited discussion of
what it means to be lesbian, bi-female and transgendered in comics today. Moderated by Patty Jeres, Prism
Comics Board Co-President.

THANK YOU! To Patty, Ted, Justin, Zan and the rest of the Prism gang for organizing such a great weekend.

And in case you wondered… What is Prism Comics?
PRISM COMICS is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization which promotes awareness of lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgendered and LGBT-friendly comic books, graphic novels and comics creators. Although
PRISM publishes a yearly “LGBT GUIDE TO COMICS”, we are not a publisher. We are a resource and
awareness organization. The group was formed by a small number of comics fans and professionals from
across the United States to provide a voice for the LGBT community in the comics field.

The Jane’s World story contest

Remember a few months ago Jane’s World ran a story contest and the winner was Sarah, from Memphis? Well, that story arc starts today on Comics.com. Enjoy!!

Jane in shades of gray

Today’s comic is the second installment of JW on Thursday’s and the first to appear in gray scale. It seemed that based on reader feedback, Jane readers vote for more frequent Jane, but not necessarily in color. So maybe the trade-off for work time on my end is JW twice a week, but only in gray scale… since that’s a lot faster than full color. I actually kinda like the old school tone this gray scale creates. Besides, these will only appear in gray tones in book 9, so all that color work would really only ever live online anyway.

Slight subject change…

I don’t know how many of you check the comments on comics.com, but there was one comment on Monday’s strip from one reader that really sort of cracked me up. I was thinking about it driving in this morning (and this was before coffee because I was running late!) This word choice/language in this comment was kind of out of line I thought for a “family friendly” website, so I’m glad to see that some of the online readers flagged the comment and it has since been taken down, but it did get me to thinking this morning as I was driving in.

I’ll paraphrase the comment for you: “Great (boobs) too bad they’re wasted on a dyke.”

The comment was in reference to Danielle’s fine form, but it sort of made me laugh because I was thinking how misunderstood lesbians must be that this reader (whom I’m assuming is male) didn’t think that a woman, attracted to women, would not also appreciate a woman with nice breasts. Does this guy assume that we’re only attracted to a woman because of her brains or sense of humor?

We’re all human, is my point, and good form is good form… regardless of which gender you’re attracted to. So, I for one, submit that Danielle’s form is not wasted on me :-)

Monday and Thursday Jane comics

Some of you may have seen the posting on Comics.com to announce that Jane’s World will start posting a new comic every Monday AND Thursday. If you didn’t catch that announcement, well, now you know.

I wanted to highlight today’s comic because it was done by a guest cartoonist, Diego Jourdan Pereira, who resides in Chile. This is the first time that I’ve ever allowed another artist to ink Jane’s World. I had to go ahead and ink my version of today’s installment for story continuity in the book when it’s released in May, so I’m posting part of both versions here.

Jane, by Paige

Jane, by Diego

I think it’s very interesting to see how different artists solve the same artistic equation. I especially LOVE Diego’s vibrant color work and his rendering of Dorrie.

You might also want to check out some work Diego is doing for Astro Boy.

And don’t forget to check for fresh Jane every Monday and Thursday.

THANK YOU, DIEGO!
