German L-mag talks about JW

Thank you to Simone Veenstra who included Jane’s World in a recent article about  “women in comics“ for a German magazine called L-mag (easy to guess a lesbian magazine – the one and only in Germany: www.l-mag.de ) Then Simone was kind enough to follow up by scanning the published piece and sending it to me. So here’s a glimpse for any and all Jane fans who can read German. Enjoy, and thanks, Simone!

Happy holidays from Jane’s World

I just have a couple of holiday updates for Jane’s World readers before I head to Georgia for Christmas with the family.

Comics.com will have its regular Monday updates of new comics, but there will be a two week break on AfterEllen.com. There will be a new color comic up on AfterEllen tomorrow (Thanks, Sarah, for the great color work), but then the next new comic won’t show up on that site until January 8th. The AfterEllen installments are what those of you who read Jane’s World on Comics.com have already seen.

My goal for the new year is to match the two sites up so that the JW storyline is the same no matter where you read it. That should happen in early January.

In the meantime, check Comics.com for JW holiday cheer.

Everyone be safe, stay warm, and I’ll see you in 2009!

Rave review of DTWOF in the NYTimes

I just have to give this shout out for my pal in comics, Alison Bechdel. In case any of you missed it, her comic strip, “Dykes to Watch out For,” got a great review in the NYTimes last week. Enjoy.

And Alison, way to go! You are a rock star!

Format change on Comics.com

Some of you may have noticed a format change on Comics.com today. Forces conspired to make it impossible for me to keep up with a daily online deadline for Comics.com, so we came up with a compromise that I think will work. A longer format comic, once a week, in color.

I’d love to keep doing a comic daily, but the reality is that the “day job” has to come first because it’s the one that pays the bills… plus, things like wanting to have time with my girlfriend, time to play with my two dogs and just generally have a life that inspires more Jane’s World. (You get the idea.)

I was feeling like the quality of the comic was beginning to suffer because I was rushing to get stuff posted for each day and it felt like I was posting less “story” each day to make the daily deadline work. So I feel like in the long run, this one-day-a-week version of Jane’s World will offer a more complete, fleshed-out, story. Hopefully this will be more satisfying for both the artist/writer (me!) and the reader (you!).

If I could do Jane’s World full time that would be a dream, but “Jane” will have to continue to be my “weekend job” for now. Maybe someday… but for now, I’ll be working on the story that will be collected into Jane’s World Vol. 9… meanwhile, posting segments on Comics.com each week.

This will also probably work out well for the books because there won’t be pressure from the daily deadline to post the “juicy bits” that end up getting “edited” for the online audience anyway. These segments can live, in their “uncut” form, in the books.
