So the big story in Ohio this weekend was that I challenged Alison to an arm wrestling match. (Actually I meant to challenge her at Comic Con in San Diego, then chickened out. But somehow she heard the rumor of this challenge and suggested we arm wrestle for real.) Here’s video of the main event… which was basically a draw, with sound effects. The voice over you hear is Hilary Price.

Fun with Alison and Hilary in Ohio

Here we are posing on the Ohio State campus during our weekend of fun at the Festival of Cartoon Art. (left to right: Paige, Hilary Price and Alison Bechdel).

After browsing an exhibit of original art by Milton Caniff we struck out to find dinner somewhere near campus. While we enjoyed dinner someone (I can’t remember who) suggested we collaborate on a cartoon.

Then our dinner conversation turned to the topic of drawing breasts. As Alison pointed out on her blog, it might have been because of all the giant Milt Caniff breasts in the exhibit. (See below)

Alison said that she’d sort of not focused on breasts in her art… probably in reaction to that sort of “old school” exaggerated representation of breasts by cartoonists like Mort Walker. I confessed that recently I’ve been, um, embracing breasts… on paper that is. Hilary reported that an older male cartoonist at one of these comic gatherings once told her her comic strip would be more popular if she made her women characters’ breasts bigger. So we all proceeded to demonstrate how we draw breasts. I found Hilary’s diagram, with the exploded view, very education.

The following night we gathered for more collaborative cartooning and I challenged Alison to an arm-wrestling match… but I’m too sleepy to post those photos just yet. More on our “Ohio Adventure” tomorrow.
Jane makes her debut in Greece
Jane’s World debuted this week in Comicdom. Hello to new Jane fans in Athens!
Jane is the Wonder Woman day mascot!
Stacy and her pals at Comic Fusion made Jane in her Wonder Woman outfit the mascot for their event! I’m so happy for Jane. Who knew not filling out that costume would get her so much fun attention. Thanks, Stacy and good luck!
