Now that I’m looking at these new pages I’m thinking that you may not be able to see a difference with the new pen. I guess what I’m noticing is that the line work isn’t quite as loose as it was with the quill pen. So here are a couple of pages from book 8. Skye is getting a little romantic advice from her co-worker, Tucker, before taking off for a trip to Key West with Jane, Chelle and Jill.
I’ve been working on the new book, vol. 8, and I decided, after reading vol. 7, that I should have some scenes in the upcoming book that linger just a little longer in some of those romantic moments. (It’s always good to sit and reread your own book a few times. You get so lost in each page that it’s hard to step back and see the story as a whole.) It struck me when I was reading back over vol. 7 that I was cutting away too soon just as intimate connections happened. I think in my haste to move the story along I cut away too quickly sometimes. I’ve been enjoying working on some of these “connections” for the new book. Here’s a sketch of Skye and Jane taking things to the next level. I just thought I’d post this for the fun of it. Cheers.
Back in March, Jean Schulz and I made a trip to Athens, Greece to attend the Comicdom comic festival and I struck up a special, artistic friendship with Kostas Kiriakakis. In my opinion a great, yet undiscovered, comic book talent. The week prior to Comic con in San Diego we talked Kostas into participating in the “cartoonist in residence” program at the Schulz Museum. I was sitting on his left (right in the photo) to ease his nervousness about talking in front of the small crowd of comic fans (not pictured) that gathered to see pages from his portfolio. Anyway, I just wanted to give a big blog “hello” to Kosta and Lida. We really miss you both!
